Visions & Delusions

There comes a time in one`s life when the futility of servitude seems so painfully evident that one cannot but think why or what is the reason one should endure it any longer. There comes a time when the safety and security of the present seems meaningless compared to the gains of what lies ahead, if only one chooses to take the road not taken. However, we can safely say that it is not something that everyone wants or can do. While the returns are immense, not everyone is capable enough to cross over to the other side of the table BUT what if the life on this side shows no signs of a better tomorrow apart from the monetary security if offers? There is an entire world out there which is waiting to be explored given that one has the appetite for risk and the willingness to move out of one`s comfort zone. How many of us are ready to do that? Not many, I can assure you. Why not, you may ask. Let`s put it this way, some know their limitations, some are not sure if that`s what they are made ...

Green Smokers

How would you react if you’re seated in a fancy hotel with a proudly proclaimed LEED rating and the man of the moment says that all this ‘hoohaa’ about ‘green’ is just hogwash? Predictably, the audience burst out in peals of laughter after a momentary pause. Was the pause an introspective moment or not, is not for me to comment on. All I can say is that it was a reaffirmation of what I always thought of LEED. That aside, I was there to hear what Christopher Charles Benninger had to say on the topic of the moment, ‘Sustainable Living’. It turned out to be a session full of humour and characteristic sharp wit coming from one of the most respected architects in the world. Accustomed to hearing long speeches at such events, it was a refreshing change to listen to someone who not only practices what he preaches but preaches in a manner which makes the listener at once attentive and receptive. The presentation started with CCB putting across a simple fact – one cannot go green unless one...

Labyrinths

Another one of days when the mind seems more numb than the usual. There seems to be a slight hesitation and a (yet) uncategorised mental hurdle that has come up. Whether it is a figment of my imagination or real, I don’t really know right now. What I do know is that there is a general, all round confusion about what direction I should be heading towards. Now, the issue itself is not very serious, at least not enough to warrant pressing the panic button. I suppose it stems more from an angle of re-familiarisation. A rolling stone gathers no moss – but it definitely loses its amorphous shape and that seems more likely in this case. There are so many things that we want and we want and we want and it just doesn’t seem to stop – the want! As the age old adage of r oti, kapda aur makaan has been replaced by Mrs. Dixit’s political slogans of bijli, sadak aur paani ; it is human nature to never stop wanting. It’s like a shopping list which keeps getting longer by the day. What we ‘need’ is si...

Paradise Lost (no reference to Milton)

image source: http://www.nazaraone.com/archives/images//bhagyavidhaata-colors-tv-show.jpg Women are evil...! Umm...that doesn’t sound right, does it? In fact, I suppose it sounds obnoxious and totally MCPish! Ok, let me rephrase that, “Indian women are evil.” Yes, you read that right, evil. Now why would I say something so mean and dastardly? Blame Ekta Kapoor and her media kin for this strong emotion! Home was always this wonderful place, like paradise, with an abundant supply of food and you never had to pay for a meal afterwards! Lounging on the couch watching some random stuff on tv with a plate full of munchies always accessible. The simple pleasures of home! Of late, however, this paradise has been ruined by the above mentioned story teller and her sordid stories. Now when I come home, I see these women dressed to the teeth in ornate sarees and jewellery, constantly plotting to ruin another woman’s life with immense satisfaction. I remember years ago, there was this s...
