Walking can be a boon, sometimes. Especially, when you see beautiful beasts like this drool worthy Zero Engineering ( http://www.zero-eng.com/ ) motorcycle! This beauty was parked in the entrance lobby of a nondescript coffee shop on Huaihai Middle Road and must have been so lonely. I wish I could hear her roar or better still, take her for a ride. I need to make better friends, real quick. Update: Zero Engineering is shutting down the business, as per this post on their Instagram page on 26 June 2019 :( #shanghai #newadventures #explorechina #nonperiodicoscillations #motorcycles #zeroengineering #ride #livetoride #custom #custommotorcycle #chopper

Walking down Changle Lu, enjoying the warm sunshine, I spotted these beauties in a little side lane. The new Shineray's engine was running and it sounded so good. I would have loved to hear the yellow one too. Spotting a BMW R nineT outside The Power Station of Art being revved hard was very satisfying. Owning a motorcycle is a prohibitively expensive affair in Shanghai although almost everyone is riding an electric scooter, which is quite affordable. One can only hope that in the future, this will change and motorcycles will find acceptance. #shanghai #newadventures #explorechina #nonperiodicoscillations #motorcycles #yellow #bmw #RnineT #shineray #powerstationofart #electric #scooter #ride #fortheride

SQUIDS from the DGR

A friend shared a link to an Instagram video today, of a bunch of riders who decided to rip through the streets after attending the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. As most you might know, the DGR is a charity ride where they ask you to dress up and ride "dapper". While I have my own reservations against big group rides, DGR or otherwise, I support the idea of such a ride as long as it is for a good cause. However, I have a problem with riders like these who, in the spirit of being “dapper”, wear minimal protective riding gear and then go speeding through public roads. These guys were riding at speeds in excess of 160 Kmph on public roads. I remember that video where a group of riders were doing close to 300 Kmph, in full gear, on a public road and then they crashed. I have seen the entire video and trust me, it was not a pleasant sight. Imagine if, God forbid, they had an accident? People will say that the DGR encourages unsafe riding habits. Yes, I know that is stup...

She's twenty years young, bruised and battered, on her fourth piston and yet, she rolls :) I got this beauty a month before my Class 10th Board Exams! Don't ask me how I convinced my parents. She has been with me through the best and the worst experiences in life, and it is a pity that she has to stay far away from me due to dumb legislation.

Ride_Quaint & Beautiful Lansdowne

Image
Lansdowne is a beautiful, quaint little hill station in Uttarakhand and it is the closest hill station to Delhi. Home of the famous Garwhal Regiment, the town is an army cantonment and thus, is spared from the rampant commercialisation experienced by the other hill stations. The ride is approxiamately 280 Km with the major segment in the plains with good roads and the mountain roads are generally alright although they can use some repairs. The mountain roads start after Kotdwar. There are a few "touristy" spots although if you're like me, they are best avoided. Chill in the quaint town square sipping chai or go for long walks in the town or in the forest. Alternatively, just laze and soak in the beautiful nature that you will be surrounded by. Most popular food stops are Cheetal Grand (~99 Km) just before Khatauli or Monty Millions (~125 Km) at Miranpur. Alternatively, there are numerous dhabas and smaller restaura...

You and Her and the Road

As you turn the throttle ever so gently, she purrs between your legs almost begging you to to set yourself free...to let her take you to places you've never been to before. Her gentle purring is frequently broken by an urgent roar and then, she she just starts to hum a steady tune as the world flies past and it's just you and Her and the Road.
